Wallace Amos, a native of Tallahassee Florida, learned the recipe for his famous cookies from his Aunt Della at the age of 12. His family migrated to Florida from New York where he grew to manhood and attended college after time in the service.
He worked for the William Morris agency in Manhattan and swiftly became a talent agent and broker for the likes of acts like Simon and Gartfunkle and the Supremes. He would also send cookies as a complimentary gift to clients. People loved the cookies so much it was suggested to him to go into business. In 1975 he opened the store with a 25,000 loan from Marvin Gaye and Helen Reddy. The cookies were so popular they quickly became available in supermarkets.
Wally and his wife Christine, though aspects of the business were sold to give them more time to do charity work and enjoy retirement, are still creatively involved and have in recent years introduced muffins for retail. Wally Amos is a great example of an American Entrepreneur who’s creative work is a labor of love.
