The Staging of Adamu Orisha Play also known as the Eyo Festival is a Yoruba festival that is very unique to Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
The Staging of Adamu Orisha Play is held to escort the soul of a departed Lagos King or prominent Lagosian, who has contributed to the progress and development of Lagos during his or her lifetime. The festival is only staged for this reason. Today the Play retains in its entirety the richness of the culture, which it depicts. It constitutes the highest honor that Lagos could repay for eminence and illustriousness.
The first procession in Lagos was on the 20th of February, 1854, to commemorate the life of the Oba Akintoye.
