Lenapahoking. That is the ancient name of what is now New York. The natives of the New York harbor territory, including New Jersey, are the Lenape and some records reflect at least a 10,000 year history on the land but still others reflect a prehistoric history.
Nia Imani Franklin of New York, by way of North Carolina, was crowned Miss America 2019. Nia graduated from the North Carolina School of Arts with a Masters degree.
Born in 1886, James Van der Zee migrated to Harlem from from Lenox Massachusetts in 1906. A gifted youth, he took an early interest in music and photography building a dark room in his parents home to develop the many photographs of the residents of Harlem.
