Black History Month; Trailblazers, Inspirational Human: Tonja Buford Bailey, Head Coach of University of Texas, and was the head women’s coach at Illinois from 2008-13.
Buford-Bailey was a standout at Illinois who won the NCAA’s champion in the 400-meter hurdles in 1992. Buford-Bailey participated in three Olympics and was the bronze medalist in the 400-meter hurdles in 1996.

As we celebrate Black History Month the athletic director of University of Texas elevated Tonja Buford-Bailey as Texas’ interim head coach and later head coach of the track and field program at Texas.
